Eventbrite - GASP's Air Quality Camp

Immerse your child in environmental education and Southwestern Pennsylvania’s natural heritage this summer. This day camp will get your middle schoolers outside and provide them with the tools they need to understand air quality and the environment that they call home.

From Monday through Friday, we will explore Pittsburgh’s air quality through our local parks and museums, followed by bringing it back to the classroom for activities that deepen understanding and inspire creative fun.

Activities will focus on the sources of air pollution, its effects on our health and environment, and the actions that we can take to improve air quality. Campers will have the opportunity to seed bio-indicators plants that are sensitive to ground-level ozone, go on a lichen identification hike, create low-cost pollution catchers, experiment with chemical reactions that change our air, and design a personal plan for reducing their impact on the environment.

This camp has 20 open spots, ensuring a high teacher-to-student ratio that will give your child a chance to thrive. The $150 fee includes all camp activities and field trips. Campers will be expected to bring a packed lunch, a water bottle to drink throughout the day, and warm weather appropriate clothing.

GASP wants to provide all children the opportunity to learn about air quality. There are scholarships available for campers in need of financial assistance. Please contact GASP’s Executive Director Rachel Filippini at rachel@gasp-pgh.org or (412) 924-0604 x201 for more details.
