Resolution in Opposition to a Proposed Mon/Fayette Expressway Bypass Through the Township of Wilkins

Hotline, Fall 2001

The Board of Commissioners of the Township of Wilkins hereby resolve as follows:

RESOLVED, that the proposed construction of a bypass through the township along Thompson Run Road to Business Route 22 at Penn Center is not in the best interest of the township, and the Board of Commissioners are opposed to it. The proposed construction of this roadway will disturb residential areas and the most important commercial development of this township at Penn Center along Business Route 22. It will displace residents and businesses, increase traffic and noise, and have an overall negative impact on the tax base of the township. Where a Monroeville Spur is being proposed at Business Route 22 is located the heart of the new development in the township’s business district, all of which have been approved and construction has either begun or is pending, namely Home Depot, Circuit City, Comp USA and the Penn Center Shops.

RESOLVED at a duly assembled meeting of the Board of Township commissioners this 28th day of May, 1996.
